Please join us for a postdoc career development event with Josh Syken. He will be telling us about his career path, his experience transitioning from academia to pharmaceutical industry and advice on how today’s young postdoctoral researchers should prepare for the job market.

Josh Syken completed a bachelors degree in Biology at Purchase College, where he studied the evolution of histone genes in Hawaiian Drosophila. He received a Ph.D. from Harvard University, where his dissertation focused on apoptotic signal transduction. His postdoctoral work was performed in the laboratory of Carla Shatz, also at Harvard, where he focused on development and plasticity of the central nervous system. In 2007 he joined Vertex Pharmaceuticals, and leads a group focused on discovering and developing treatments for neurodegenerative diseases.
